Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy

8 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy[a] came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

REFLECTION:

"Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean."
Jesus reached out His hand, touched the man, and said, "I am willing. Be clean!" Immediately, the man was cleansed of his leprosy.

Here we witness an intimate, warm, and personal conversation. It begins with a humble request from a man who is suffering leprosy. He does not demand anything. He knows who is standing before him. The One he is speaking to can do all things—even what is impossible for human beings. He trusts Him completely, so he simply says, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean."

And the Lord, to whom this gentle and humble request is addressed, is pleased with it. He responds with warmth and compassion: "I am willing. Be clean!" At once, the man is cleansed of his leprosy. There is no need for surgery, medical treatment, or any process of healing. The leper is instantly made whole. His faith has brought him healing because he has come before the right Person—Jesus, the Son of God, the Almighty.

Are we also worthy to speak before the Lord Jesus? Are the words we speak to Him the right ones? Is Jesus pleased with our prayers, or are they still not pleasing to Him?

Holy Spirit, teach us to place the right words upon our lips, so that our prayers may be pleasing in His sight. Amen.
